Our toddler class size is big and inviting to make it feel like home. It is a period of self-development, learning self-help skills, and preparation to the Primary Program. It is designed to assist the child toward independence, social awareness, respect and the development of motor skills and language. The environment offers right-sized furniture and activities to match the child's stage of development. Rather than a classroom, it is a nurturing environment where very young children experience their first structured contact with other children. Activities are offered in the areas of language enrichment, daily life exercises, hand eye coordination, art and visual recognition Through song, dance and freedom of choice, the toddlers have access to a variety of large muscle activities that offer them opportunities to jump, climb, balance, crawl, and skip. These exercises as well as creative art activities are offered for each child to choose. This freedom in a safe place is crucial to the toddler program. However, it is tempered by two important limits that will be beneficial for a lifetime -- respect for others and respect for the environment.

A child who started in the Toddler class may move up to the Primary class by age 2 years 6 months. Signs of readiness are developed vocabulary, ability to sit and finish a task, need for more challenging work, and has developed trust in caregivers. Montessori never hindered a child just because he or she is young.

Dr Maria Montessori's own words, "Our work as adults does not consist in teaching, but in helping the infant mind in its work of development". Montessori believed that the first three years of life form the foundation for the rest of our lives.
